The National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre coordinated the deployment, at the request of the Australian Government, of an Australian Medical Assistance Team (AUSMAT) on March 15 following the devastating impact of Tropical Cyclone Pam on Vanuatu.
A 3 person Rapid Assessment Team and a 4 person Initial Treatment Team arrived in Port Vila on the 15 March.
On 18 March they were joined by an AUSMAT of 20 which included 1 team leader, 5 doctors, 9 nurses, 2 paramedics, 1 radiologist, 1 pharmacist, 5 logisticians.
This brings to 27 the number of the AUSMAT
They commenced work on arrival in the Port Vila Hospital .
The NCCTRC deployed 15 tonnes of medical and logistics equipment which included a field hospital and water purification capacity.
