DIRECTOR DISASTER PREPAREDNESS

Abi began her Paramedic training in Yulara and Alice Springs after leaving a career in hotel management. She has worked across the Northern Territory including remote areas in the McArthur River district and supported the response to both Bali bombings and East Timor crisis. After twelve years of paramedic service, she left St John Ambulance NT, when she was offered the role of Event Manager with Darwin Convention Centre, during their first year of operation. This resulted in the delivery of 52 high profile events in the first six months of opening.

After a year of juggling a young family and notorious hospitality hours, she was offered a position as a Senior Policy officer with Department of Health and Families, Alcohol and other Drug unit, which was an interesting change and a return to health. The role included working with NGO’s in developing change and risk management policies and improvement in their clinical delivery to high risk Central Australian clients.

In 2009 she joined the NCCTRC, contributing to the building of the AusMAT National deployment cache, AusMAT Manual and National AusMAT training program. Until April 2016, Abi was the AusMAT Operations Manager responsible for the preparedness and operational deployment of responding AusMAT’s and the field hospital.

Deployments: 2010 Paramedic in the Australian civilian/military medical team for two months to Pakistan following the devastating floods. 2013 Paramedic member of Team bravo deployed to the Philippines after super typhoon Haiyan. 2015 Taskforce leader for the AusMAT Fijian response after cyclone Winston. All other deployments since 2009, Abi had provided the operational role for the center. Abi has a Bachelor of Health Science and Post Graduate qualifications in Paramedic Practice.
